Angell’s Cakes, founded by Kiera Atherton, brings delicious, beautifully decorated cakes from a home kitchen to the Telford community.
“I started baking from home because I have a passion for baking and decorating cakes,” Kiera shares. “Family and friends loved my baked goods and encouraged me to set up a baking business. Without giving it much thought, I dived straight in and went for it. I’ve been busy baking and enjoying serving delicious cakes and cupcakes ever since.”
The guidance and support from the UKSPF-funded Thrive Telford Business Start-Up Service have exceeded Kiera’s expectations. “The support has been better than I imagined,” she says. “I have learned a lot, from targeting a certain audience, the importance of a business plan and why people should buy from me.”
The hands-on sessions helped Kiera understand the value of her work and how to price her products correctly. She also gained insights into effective marketing strategies and creating a solid business plan.
Looking ahead, Kiera is eager to expand her skills and grow Angell’s Cakes. “My next steps are to decide which courses will improve my skills so I can use them to increase my profits,” she explains. Kiera plans to attend various events and wedding fayres to showcase her creations, push herself further, and discover her best route forward. “I want to find out what I’m capable of, decide what I enjoy most, and develop my business plan from there.”
“Kiera’s passion and dedication to her craft are inspiring,” says Nigel from the Start-Up Service. “It’s been a pleasure to support her journey with Angell’s Cakes. Her willingness to learn and grow embodies the spirit of the Thrive Telford programme. We look forward to seeing her business flourish and sweeten the lives of many more customers.”
